No trip to the Great Smoky Mountains is complete without a moonshine tasting in Gatlinburg.

However, with so many amazing distilleries to choose from, the options may seem overwhelming.

How much is moonshine tasting in Gatlinburg?

Most of the moonshine distilleries along the strip in Gatlinburg offer tastings for $5 per person.

However, if you go a little off the strip, sometimes you can get some free moonshine samples from local liquor stores.

Also, some of the wineries along the Gatlinburg strip will let you do a tasting for free, but tips are always recommended.

1. Sugarlands Distilling Company

Sugarlands is a popular distillery where guests are invited to taste samples of spirits, take behind-the-scenes tours and shop for merchandise and apparel.

The hosts are notorious for being personable, knowledgeable and entertaining. Sugarlands is the official moonshine of NASCAR. Tastings are just $5. Tours start at $12 per person, at the time of this writing.

2. Ole Smoky

Ole Smoky was the first federally licensed distillery in the history of East Tennessee. Notably, it’s the most visited distillery in the world.

They have 3 locations in the Smoky Mountains: “The Holler” and “The Barrelhouse” in Gatlinburg and “The Barn” in Pigeon Forge (at The Island).

All locations have merchandise and apparel for sale, and tastings are just $5. The Holler often offers live music.

3. Tennessee Shine Company

Tennessee Shine Company is a craft distillery with locations in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley and Sevierville.

They offer tours and tastings with approximately 20 flavors of moonshine. They offer many specialty flavors, including Moon Pie flavors, for instance.

Honorable Mention: Old Forge Distillery

First of all, the honorable mentions are located off the strip in Gatlinburg.

However, the benefit to that is the samples are usually free.

Located in Pigeon Forge, the Old Forge Distillery is a boutique distillery with flavored spirits, tastings and a gift shop.

Old Forge is located in the Old Mill Square, which is a landmark in the area as one of the oldest, continuously operating mills in the country. The tasting bar is open daily.

Honorable Mention: Old Tennessee Distilling Co.

Secondly, another great place off the strip is Old Tennessee Distilling Co. They produce corn whiskey, rum, gin and moonshine. Tastings are free.

Located in Kodak, it’s a good option for those who are looking for something a little further out from the Gatlinburg crowds.

Finally, Smith Creek is a moonshine-tasting destination conveniently located at Tanger Outlets in Sevierville.

The store offers bottled shines, apparel, jams, dry rubs and more. For example, popular flavors include Sweet Tea, Apple Pie, Salted Caramel and Peach.
