There’s no shortage of mountain coasters in the Smokies. Folks discovered years ago that zipping through the mountains might just be one of the best ways to see them. 1. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster 

The Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is one of the longest downhill rides in the United States, with more than 1 mile of track that takes 7-8 minutes to complete. The carts are able to carry two riders, but can also accommodate single riders. This ride runs in sunshine, rain and snow.

2. Rocky Top Mountain Coaster

The Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is one of the longest tracks in East Tennessee with more than 9 minutes of twists, turns, tunnels and a few “unexpected” surprises along the way. This coaster is the first in the world to have four uplifts.

3. Rail Runner at Anakeesta 

Anakeesta is an amusement park in Gatlinburg that has gardens, a forest walk, ziplines, shopping, dining, and of course, an alpine coaster. The Rail Runner at Anakeesta is the only single-rail mountain coaster in the United States. It has 1,600 feet of downhill twists and turns that reach speeds up to 25 mph.

Rowdy Bear

4. Alpine Coaster at Rowdy Bear Mountain

Rowdy Bear Mountain is an adventure park in Gatlinburg that has two exciting rides, a mountain glider and an alpine mountain coaster. This alpine coaster reaches speeds up to 35 mph and runs in sunshine, rain or snow. Rowdy Bear uses an intelligent Distance Control System to ensure the carts do not come in contact with one another.

5. Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster  

The Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster is a family-friendly thrill ride that coasts down the mountain on a specially-designed silent track. This track propels riders about 30-35 mph downhill and is open day or night. Riders can also ride again for only $8.

6. Coaster at Goats on the Roof  

The Coaster at Goats on the Roof is an exciting journey through the hills of Tennessee with speeds that reach just under 30 mph. The coaster accommodates single or double riders, and yes — there are actually real-life goats, on the roof, at this attraction.

7. Ski Mountain Coaster at Ober Gatlinburg 

Ober Gatlinburg is an amusement park and ski area, located in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg. The mountain coaster begins with a tree-covered, relaxing ride to the top. On the way down, riders enjoy the view at their own speed as they course through 2,750 feet of turns, dips and G-force adventures. This ride goes up to 25 mph.
