In the 1880s, George Vanderbilt II came to the Smokies 

He had the type of wealth typically reserved for kings 

And he wanted to build a summer house, a little mountain escape...

So he bought 700 parcels of land, including 50 farms 

And he hired 1,000 workers and 60 stonemasons...

It took about $6 million to build (in 1895 dollars) 

Some appraisals think the home is probably worth close to $100 million 

But that doesn't include all 8,000 acres!
