Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year, Nov. 11, 2026. If you’re a veteran, or you’re traveling with one, the Smokies make a good place to spend it. You get a free day in the national park, a long-running ceremony in Gatlinburg and a handful of military discounts at attractions in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville.

Here’s what we could confirm for 2026, and where to double-check before you go.

Free parking in the Smokies on Veterans Day

Great Smoky Mountains National Park never charges an entrance fee, but you normally need a parking tag ($5 a day, $15 a week or $40 a year) to park anywhere in the park for more than 15 minutes. Nov. 11 is one of the Park Service’s 2026 fee-free days, and the park says parking tags will not be required on those dates.

Rangers still enforce the other parking rules, so don’t park on the shoulder or in a no-parking zone. Popular trailheads still fill up early, even in November. Nov. 11 is the last fee-free day of 2026.

On every other day, keep in mind that a Military Pass or any other America the Beautiful pass doesn’t replace the parking tag. Our guide to Smoky Mountain parking tags explains how to buy one.

Gatlinburg Veterans Day ceremony

Gatlinburg has hosted a Veterans Day observance every year since 2000, and it’s one of the official Regional Sites for the Observance of Veterans Day designated by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Day National Committee, according to the City of Gatlinburg.

This year’s ceremony is Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. in Mills Auditorium at the Gatlinburg Convention Center, 234 Historic Nature Trail. Gatlinburg’s tourism office lists it as a one-hour ceremony with complimentary food and beverage, and it is free and open to everyone (Gatlinburg 2026 events guide). Free parking has been offered at 309 Reagan Drive. A few third-party calendars list Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza instead, so check Gatlinburg.com the morning of the event in case of changes.

Past ceremonies have included the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School band and chorus, a POW/MIA table presentation and a Quilts of Valor ceremony. Get there early, because parking downtown fills up fast.

Sevierville and Sevier County ceremonies

The annual Sevier County Veterans Day Program is Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the Historic Sevier County Courthouse in downtown Sevierville. The Walters State Sevier Community Band plays before the ceremony, and the program includes remarks from County Mayor Bryan McCarter, a flyover by the Smoky Mountain Chapter of the Warbirds of America, a POW/MIA ceremony, a Quilts of Valor presentation, a wreath laying and Taps (The Mountain Press). Court Avenue between Commerce and Bruce streets closes from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., so plan to park a few blocks away (City of Sevierville).

All five Sevier County high schools also put on free Veterans Day programs that veterans and their families are invited to (The Mountain Press, Oct. 27, 2026):

  • Gatlinburg-Pittman High School: Tuesday, Nov. 10, 9:30 a.m., with lunch for veterans and families afterward
  • Pigeon Forge High School: Tuesday, Nov. 10, 9:30 a.m., gymnasium, with a reception afterward
  • Sevier County High School: Friday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. (an evening show was also listed for Thursday, Nov. 5)
  • Seymour High School: Thursday, Nov. 5, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Pigeon Forge: veterans tribute at the Winterfest Kickoff

Pigeon Forge saves its biggest veterans tribute for the Winterfest Kickoff, two days after Veterans Day. The free event is Friday, Nov. 13, 4 to 8 p.m. at Patriot Park, 186 Old Mill Ave. It includes live music, food trucks, a salute to veterans, the lighting of the Winterfest lights and fireworks. Parking is free in the city lots off Teaster Lane near the LeConte Center (Pigeon Forge Winterfest).

Sevier County veterans can also attend the Pigeon Forge Hospitality & Tourism Association’s Salute America’s Heroes luncheon and show at Dolly Parton’s Stampede on Thursday, Nov. 12. The program starts at 11:15 a.m. Registration is through Eventbrite.

Veteran and military discounts at Smokies attractions

These are offers we confirmed from the attraction’s own website or a current 2026 listing. Bring your military ID, because most of them are only available at the ticket window.

  • Titanic Museum Attraction (Pigeon Forge): Titanic offers a military discount year-round to active-duty and retired military and veterans, and reservations are required (Titanic military page). Titanic has also given veterans a free admission ticket during an Honors Veterans Week in November, and a local tourism calendar lists it for Nov. 10–16 (event listing). Titanic hasn’t posted 2026 details on its own site, so call (865) 868-1197 to confirm before you book. Read our take on whether the Titanic Museum is worth it.
  • Dollywood (Pigeon Forge): Discounted 2026 day tickets for U.S. active-duty, retired and reserve military, veterans, spouses and dependents, starting at $66.49 plus tax for one day. You must verify through ID.me and buy online. Dollywood is also running a Salute to Veterans sale on 2027 Season Passes starting at $134.99. Smoky Mountain Christmas is running during Veterans Day week (Dollywood). See our Dollywood Christmas guide.
  • Anakeesta (Gatlinburg): 10% off single-day admission for active-duty or retired military and their immediate family. You have to buy at the ticket booth at 576 Parkway, and the discount can’t be used online or combined with other discounts (Anakeesta FAQ).
  • Everywhere else: Lots of Parkway attractions, restaurants and lodging offer a military discount without advertising it. Ask at the ticket window before you pay.
