Ancient Lore Village in Knoxville cuts ribbon on its latest expansion
As I drove up the winding driveway of Ancient Lore Village, I passed a golf cart in which the person behind the wheel had elf ears. I knew I had arrived at the right place. Ancient Lore Village is something out of a fairytale with cobblestone lining the houses and music that sounds like you’re in the middle of “The Princess Bride” movie.
Many bustling correspondents turned out for their event, eager to see the inside of the new Elven Treehouses. Mayor Glenn Jacobs also appeared at the ribbon-cutting ceremony early that morning, gushing about his love for Dungeons and Dragons and all things mythical.

What is Ancient Lore Village?
Ancient Lore Village is not just some average Airbnb. This is a place where fantasy, reality and also a place to rest your head mix beautifully and refreshingly in a way that has not been done before. For nerds and tourists alike, there is something for everyone. The property gives you a visceral feeling of awe the same way it feels when you first step into Disney World. In other words, you feel like you’re somewhere else.
Tom Boyd, founder of Ancient Lore Village, had been told numerous times that the idea wouldn’t work or people wouldn’t want this kind of attraction. But he proved a lot of people wrong. According to Ancient Lore’s website, “Tom Boyd, had a vision: Create a place where characters from different worlds could live together in peace and harmony in a place where only good, genuine goodness, exists.” And he did just that.
Boyd’s main goal was to bring people to a place that set differences aside and make them leave feeling better than when they arrived. Now many years later, they have continued to expand that feeling. So much so, there has also been talk about expanding Ancient Lore to different locations throughout the country.
Additionally, Ancient Lore has an incredible restaurant run by Chef Amy Carpenter, winner of a Pauly Award for Chef of the Year. Folks who don’t end up spending the night have visited for what many say is a phenomenal brunch. The Village also has activities strewn across the property such as axe throwing and archery. Boyd wants to include more in the future.
About the expansion
The new expansion, now open to consumers, is the Elven and Luxury Elven Treehouses. The Village prides itself on its unique dwellings. The new treehouses mark a milestone for Ancient Lore’s continuous growth in both expanding the property and their variety of dwellings.
The Elven treehouses sit on the right side of the property. They certainly look like they’ve come right out of a storybook. The Luxury Elven is a two-story treehouse made for larger groups of up to six residents. Elven is smaller and made for two. Both treehouses have a wrap-around balcony, electric fireplace and wet bar.
How to visit (location, prices and how to book)
The Elven is priced roughly at $519 per night for their base package without dining and extra activities added. The base price for the Luxury Elven is about $1,349 a night. You can book a stay directly on Ancient Lore’s website and choose a specific kind of dwelling. You can also check for deals on Kayak.
Ancient Lore Village is located at 7107 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN. You can also call to make a reservation at (865) 200-2434. Note that prices are subject to change.
