This Smoky Mountain resort offers everything from fishing to disc golf to swimming

There’s a chemistry to building just the right Smoky Mountain vacation and the biggest piece of the formula is where you’re going to stay. Choosing the right home base for the weekend or the week or the fortnight is key. Ideally, you want a spot that offers the feeling of a mountain getaway. After all, the mountains are why Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are among the most popular tourist destinations in the world. You want a place that offers as much of the glory of a Smoky Mountain vacation – from hiking and fishing to mini-golf and picnicking – without having to leave resort property. But when the time comes to leave the resort property to explore the National Park, Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg, you want to be located in a place where you can get to the fun without getting car sick winding through mountain passes for an hour.

But what if you can find a place that manages to offer the best of both worlds? A secluded mountain getaway close to the neon lights and go-kart tracks of Pigeon Forge? Then your vacation is set up for success. And that place is Little Valley Mountain Resort.

The cabins themselves are beautiful, spotlessly clean and immaculately landscaped to provide a premium mountain getaway experience. Individually designed, these cabins offer unique and memorable experiences. The cabins are privately owned, so in-cabin amenities can vary. Don’t worry about having to bring the items to stock your pantry for your stay. Groceries are available through Smoky Mountain Grocery. With the new pre-arrival service, you can have the kitchen stocked before your arrival. A variety of gift baskets are also available.

Is the resort wheelchair accessible?

Another area in which Little Valley stands out is accessibility. The Little Valley community takes pride in offering multiple options of wheelchair-accessible cabins with wide, spacious outdoor decks from which the outdoors can be enjoyed. These cabins can accommodate parties of 2 to 12 guests. In addition, the facility offers wheelchair-accessible fishing, mini golf and a pool lift. Included amenities

Any discussion of amenities in the Smokies must start with proximity to town. Little Valley Mountain Resort is 7 minutes from Goats on the Roof on Wears Valley Road and around 30 minutes from the heart of Gatlinburg. Coming into town on Wears Valley Road gives you easy access to Teaster Lane, the secret route to getting around Pigeon Forge when traffic is heavy on the main drag.

But where Little Valley Mountain Resort stands out is in the massive number of on-site amenities that allow you to vacation in place and not spend too much of your time negotiating Pigeon Forge gridlock. You can hike on three different on-site trails, including one to the picturesque on-property waterfall. There’s a par 3 golf course, and a wide variety of athletic activities that include disc golf, badminton/volleyball, basketball, pickleball/tennis and a batting cage. In addition to corn holes and horseshoes, guests can play mini golf and outdoor ping pong

There are multiple stocked, catch-and-release fishing ponds – including the one that is wheelchair accessible. Because the ponds are located on private property, licenses are not required. Fishing poles and sports equipment are available at the office, where they sell live bait and tackle.

There’s a seasonal heated pool that is open for most of the year with the aforementioned pool lift to help guests with accessibility needs. There are three playgrounds where the kids can slide and swing to their hearts’ content. You can picnic on-site. Or you can make the 20-minute drive to Metcalf Bottoms – one of the best picnic/grilling out locations in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s also a great place to go wading or tubing in the mountains.

A perfect event destination, Little Valley Mountain Resort has a wedding chapel available for booking that’s perfect for small, private weddings and a clubhouse that can be reserved for larger groups.

How to book and more information

If exploring the larger area is your goal, the resort is a short drive away from Townsend. This makes Cades Cove a reasonable day trip. Gatlinburg is also just a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic. Therefore, Little Valley Mountain Resort is an ideal launch point for a multi-purpose mountain vacation.

Booking is easily done online at the website, where various specials can be found year-round. Pricing varies seasonally and on the individual cabin selected. For instance, the four-bedroom mountaintop cabin Blackbeary Bluff – with its amazing views of the mountains across the valley – ranges from $595-$695 per night in August and September. However, smaller cabins are available for under $300 a night. Stays must be for at least three nights.
